Out of a job and dumped by her fiancé in the same week, renowned L.A. chef Gemma Cooper can’t imagine life getting any worse. But after a scathing review from an esteemed food critic, she loses all confidence in the kitchen and any hope of finding another job. With the recent inheritance of her grandparents’ lake house in Texas Hill Country, she kisses L.A. goodbye and returns to her tiny hometown to figure out her next steps.
She soon discovers the house needs more work than expected. Enter contractor Cole Michaelson. Mysterious and ridiculously attractive, he’s a distraction she doesn’t need with his quiet charm chipping away at her focus, but when she learns her family’s café is in trouble and her grandmother’s recipes are missing, her troubles only get worse.
Busy with multiple projects, the last thing Cole has time for is renovating the old Cooper property. However, Bill and Maddie Cooper were the ones who helped him launch his company when no one else would. How can he refuse their granddaughter’s plea when she inherits their home? Besides, she’s some L.A. hotshot who probably doesn’t know the difference between a flathead and a Phillips screwdriver. The last thing he expects is someone with a quick wit who puts family first. If he’s not careful, she may find a way past the walls he’s so carefully constructed. Heartbreak got him once; he won’t let it happen again.
Will Gemma find the right ingredients to save her career and her family’s café? Will Cole finally let someone slip past his guard? Together, Gemma and Cole may find themselves rebuilding something more than her grandparents’ house.
