Trash talk, loaded glances across the locker room, commentary so over the top the whole team treats it as comedy content. The plan was to get under Mateo's skin.
It never worked. Until the night it stopped being a plan.
When a disastrous team dinner explodes during the Surge's early-season slump, Mateo leans across the table and flirts back. Not awkwardly. Devastatingly. Jaxson short-circuits. And somewhere between that dinner and a hotel room wall in Orlando, the "it's just a bit" defense stops holding.
The problem: neither of them will say it isn't a joke. Jaxson, the team's loudest, most chaotic point guard, has never in his life been first to say something real. Mateo, the unshakeable Vice Captain who has known what this is for at least a year, is still waiting for Jaxson to figure it out. The Surge are fighting their way out of a slump. The locker room cannot afford a feelings conversation. So they keep scoring baskets and hooking up and calling it a bit — while the bit gets funnier and more elaborate and more obviously not a bit at all.
Something has to give. The only question is who takes the shot first.
Fast Break is a laugh-out-loud, steamy M/M sports romance about two men who use banter as armor, a found family of chaotic teammates who see everything, and the terrifying, hilarious moment when the performance slips and love turns out to be underneath.
